Stories

Now that we have a bunch of people playing, we may have some times wherein Bull Moose events happen that not all are present to see. Well, post your stories to the comments. Then we'll be able to see. I'll pull notable stories from the comments and put them onto the main front page. Happy Drinking.

The Table Story

So this is a pretty good story involving the lengths to which Bull Moose participants will go to avoid a rules violation. In order to keep any non-participants nameless, I'm going to be pretty vague with the details and just give the gist of the action.

We're at a bar (shocking) and Metzler, Jared, and Miller are sitting around talking and shooting the shit. We notice a fellow student but non-participant who has been overserved stumbling around the bar. The sloppy student then began to participate in a conversation with a group of people standing behind Metzler. I saw the whole thing happen. The student's legs started to wabble and then the student made a slow grasp for Metzler's left shoulder. The student was falling. It wasn't a graceful landing, as the student crushed a table and made a bit of an awkward scene upon yelling, "Nice Job, Metz" after getting up. Clearly this was not Metzler's fault; he was not able to stop the fall... without violating the Bull Moose rules. He could have grabbed the falling student with his left hand, but he would have had to switch his drink to his right hand and would have thus violated the rules. Although this all happened very quickly, Metzler confessed to thinking about the implications of his drink-hand switch and deciding that he was not willing to risk the violation.

That's dedication, homes.

Questions, Clarifications, and Stories

In the comments to this section, place any questions, clarifications, or stories you have regarding the game.

For example, last night at NOMA, I caught Metzler drinking a full pint of Newcastle with his right hand. I called "Bull Moose" on him and he dutifully chugged his beer on the spot. I congratulated him on his pounding and told him I'd buy him a beer. I went and got him a Bud Light, came back, and gave him the beer. He took it with his right hand. I immediately called "Bull Moose" on him. He dutifully chugged his beer again. It was impressive, to say the least.

Have fun, everyone.

The Rules

Generally:
The center of the game is the idea that you cannot touch an alcoholic beverage with your dominant (defined as "writing") hand. This includes opening, carrying, pouring, drinking, adjusting, or anything. Again, you may not touch an alcoholic beverage with your dominant hand. If you are touching your drink with your dominant hand and a fellow participant in the game says "Bull Moose" and points you out, you must immediately finish that drink.
If a fellow participant calls "Bull Moose" in error, that person must finish his drink immediately. If that person does not have a drink, he must get one and drink the whole thing immediately.
There is no "retroactive Bull Moose" call. If the person breaks the rule and you do not point him out while he is breaking the rule, then it counts as an erroneous "Bull Moose" call.
In order to join the game, a participant must say, "I'm in." Once the participant is in, the game lasts until the last day of classes in the Spring 2009 semester. No one will be permitted to drop out. The rules are in effect whether you're at a bar, at school, at home, out of town, wherever. A related post will have a list of all of the participants who are "in" and their dexterity.

Exceptions:
The following exceptions do not constitute a "Bull Moose" violation and will not cause a participant to have to finish his drink.
1. "Double-Fisting": If you have a drink in both hands, it is not a "Bull Moose" violation. However, you must drink out of the drink you're holding in your non-dominant hand. Once you finish it, you must then put that empty container down and switch your full drink to your non-dominant hand.
2. "Handing Out": If you buy drinks for a group or are bringing drinks to a group, you are permitted to hold a beverage in your dominant hand. However, once you have your drink - and only your drink - the rules come back into play.
3. "Cleaning Up": You are permitted to hold drinks in your dominant hand if you are cleaning up. Once you stop cleaning up, the rules start again.
4. Shots: Shots somewhat disqualify themselves. If you're taking a shot and someone calls "Bull Moose" on you, you simply have to finish the shot, as you would have done anyway. As such, the "Bull Moose" rule will not be applicable on shots.
